Eating Healthy On A Budget

While we all love the organic and healthy-eating mecca that is Whole Foods, it didn't earn the name "Whole Paycheck" for nothing. I'll admit you can often find decent prices on Whole Foods' "365 Everyday Value" line, but from my personal experience I'll spend an extra $20 per grocery shopping trip when I go to Whole Foods rather than Stop & Shop. However, many other grocery stores are tapping into the health movement and are stocking organic products on their shelves.

One such store is Walmart. (I know, right?) Controversial business practices aside, for a girl on a budget, a Walmart superstore is the best place to get my groceries. But imagine my surprise when I went shopping there today and I saw organic green juice.

Wait... what?

What's more, the juices were only $4.98 each... cheaper by half than their counterparts at Whole Foods, which are often a third of the size. And these juices ended up being really good!

It turns out that Walmart actually has a lot of healthy foods at low prices. Not only do they carry great health brands like Annie's and Wild Oats, they maintain the low Walmart prices. And their produce (at least at my Walmart) is good quality and at consistently lower prices than Whole Foods. For example, I got all of these groceries for $25.95:

Island Greens Juice: $4.98
Banana Berry Juice: $4.98
2 Avocados: $1.96
Four Bananas: $0.93
2 Pomegranate Cups: $5.96
Blackberries: $2.48
Whole Grain Bread: $2.98
Carrots: $1.68

If there's one thing I love more than eating healthy, it's eating healthy on a budget :)
